In the early days of computing, virus and worm authors were not welcomed in the community of hacking. The hacking community thought of malware authorship as less challenging than finding a good vulnerability and compromising weak systems—unsavory, beneath them as something that was done by kids with no talent or skills. Accordingly, the security industry treated vulnerabilities and malware as two distinctly separate threats.

Wikipedia defines transparency as “operating in such a way that it is easy for others to see what actions are performed. It has been defined simply as ‘the perceived quality of intentionally shared information from a sender.’” For example, after a point of sale transaction, a cashier practices transparency by offering a receipt for the items purchased and by counting out the customer's change on the counter.

Someone once asked me, “What do you like about working at Tenable?” And I said, “That’s a tough one, because there isn’t an easy one line answer.”

Come summer we all like to feast on watermelons, and if you are lucky, you feast on the ones that you planted in your own backyard garden in the spring. But if you think about it, all you really did was plant the seed in fertile soil, gave it some water once in a while, and that’s it. The seed eventually bore the fruit.

The Gartner Security and Risk Management Summit, held in National Harbor, MD this week, offered thought leadership and advice on building a resilient security program. Attendees also heard about innovative strategies and emergent solutions to protect digital business.
