Google Cloud Platform (GCP) SSRF on GCP Action Hub Extension to IP Restriction Bypass in Looker

Low

Synopsis

Tenable Research has identified and responsibly disclosed a Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) vulnerability in the Google Cloud Platform (GCP) Action Hub used by Looker. This flaw allowed an attacker to bypass IP-based access restrictions on a Looker instance.

The vulnerability was found within the GCP Action Hub's DataRobot action. This action failed to adequately validate or sanitize user-supplied URLs. An authenticated user could exploit this weakness to craft a malicious payload that would cause the Action Hub's server to send requests to arbitrary internal endpoints.

This SSRF vulnerability allowed an attacker to bypass an IP allowlist on a Looker instance, effectively enabling them to probe internal APIs and services that are not meant to be internet-facing.

Proof of Concept:

  1. Go to Looker Admin → Actions
  2. Insert an SSRF URL in the DataRobot URL parameter, for example, http://localhost:8081
  3. Test the action
incoming connection

Solution

Google has fixed the issue.
