Certification basics
To obtain certification, you must purchase and pass both a written and a practical exam (sold separately). Certifications are valid for two years.
Recertification
Recertification is important to ensure you remain up-to-date with current technology and capabilities. To renew a certification, simply purchase and pass both the written and practical exams again.
Policies
Tenable uses a third-party vendor to proctor exams online, and each candidate must verify their identity with a government-issued photo ID. For more information, refer to this document.

General rules
In general, the following applies to all exams
- You must be alone in the room at all times.
- Your computer must be connected to a power source.
- No phones or headphones are allowed in the testing room.
- No dual monitor use allowed.
- You may not leave your seat during the written exam. One break will be permitted during the practical exam, with a maximum break time of 5 minutes.
- No talking is allowed, except to the proctor.
- Your webcam, speakers, and microphone must remain on throughout the test.
- The proctor must be able to see you for the duration of the test.
- Drinks are allowed.
- Scrap paper (single sheet of blank paper and a writing utensil) is allowed.
- This is a closed book exam, with some exceptions noted below:
